When I adopted Beaumont in October 2009,
he was traumatized. He had lost the first five years of his life
to a puppy mill and every experience was terrifying.
He shook constantly for the first few weeks. He wouldn’t walk,
so I had to carry him outside in a basket – he was so thin I was
afraid of hurting him.
It didn’t take long for him to become a
beloved member of our family. Everything many dog owners take
for granted were celebrated events, the first time his tail went up is
etched in our memories.
Beaumont quickly made animal friends –
dogs, cats, even a gerbil – but was extremely slow to trust humans.
His first winter is when he really came
alive – he loves running on ice.
He now goes up to people, cautiously at
first, but once he knows a person he will dance for them.
He is feisty and very smart. He is
the most loyal dog in the universe.
