Now that a week has
passed, I thought I'd send you a little update about Brenna. She's
settling in well (I've attached some pictures) and has definitely made
our house a home. She almost always goes to the bathroom on the
papers, and the number of "accidents" has really gone down.
Brenna HATES going
outside, but she's getting better. Slowly but surely, she has figured
out that if we walk down the driveway and on to the street, she can
turn around and come back home. Even though she doesn't "do stairs",
she can get up our front steps no problem -- anything to get inside.
With a harness instead of a collar, and lots of treats, we're trying
to make going outside fun. Right now our backyard has three feet of
snow, so we'd lose her if we took her off the leash!
Brenna is adjusting
well to being alone during the day, but I don't think she minds the
fact that I have a snow day today. She has met lots of people, a
toddler, and another dog, and is good with all of them. We took
Brenna to the vet's on Monday, and she's okay -- she even gained some
weight! She has ear infections in both ears, which I guess she
had when we got her, but she's getting ear drops twice daily, in hopes
of clearing the infection up.
Thanks again for
holding Brenna for us while we made the drive. We are so lucky to
have her in our family ...
Brenna
has developed in leaps and bounds. She took me on a very long
walk around the block the other day; she's learned that when she needs
to go to the bathroom, the back door is the place to go; and she's
climbing up our stairs...and slowly learning to climb down. She is by
no means the same dog, though she is just as lovely as she was at the
shelter. She's developing a bit of a cocker attitude, and we love it.
She's hilarious, and we're very glad to have her in our lives.
Happy New Year,
Mary
