          For all of you
reading this my name is Jennifer from the SPCA; I'm probably the one
who adopted your new family member to you!  Cassie was a long
term resident at the SPCA from January 2006-August 2006.  When I first
met Cassie in May/06 I was a new dog walker.  I had come into the SPCA
with a stray dog and saw how overwhelmed everyone was, so much to be
done and so few people!  It was early afternoon and I asked if they
needed volunteers; before I could blink an eye I was shown how to do
laundry (SPCA style), not as easy as at home...trust me...scraping
poop off blankets takes a strong stomach.  Then after all this
was done I started to walk dogs.

          This is when I met
Cassie, she was the sweetest little girl with tons of energy and we
fell in love.  I already had 5 dogs at home, one who was terminal; my
Taffy had had every treatment that could be done at Alta Vista but now
it was a matter of a few months.  I had never even thought of getting
another dog, my heart was broken from the knowledge that Taffy only
          had a few months left.

          I volunteered at
the shelter 6 days a week, always spending time with Cassie from the
first moment I walked in the door, and finished my day off by bringing
her for a swim behind the shelter.  I was then hired for Saturdays
doing adoptions; so many dogs came and left and no interest in Cassie,
if there was any it was the wrong people for her looking for a pit
bull for all the wrong reasons...So one Saturday night as I was
closing up and saying goodnight to all the dogs giving them a rawhide
I stopped in front of Cassie's cage; she had lost that sparkle and
would not take the rawhide!  I opened her cage, put a leash on her and
she has never been back to the SPCA.

          She has blended
into our family beautifully, she plays well with her siblings and
sleeps on the same bed is our black pug Puggie. Since my time at the
SPCA I believe that all dogs have something good in them that will
make them great additions to the family. Maybe Cassie is not suited
for every home but she has given our home a whole energy that has made
my dogs become a very athletic group.  We play ball 2 hours a day, in
summer we all go swimming for an hour everyday and the 4 of them play
outside together for hours and hours everyday as long as it's not
-25.  I am proud to be part of this SPCA and look forward to many more
years finding homes for all the cats and dogs at this shelter.
