We just wanted
to take a quick moment to update you on how Chewie (aka Kiwi) is
doing.
Chewie is a
beloved member of the family. He is loving and playful, a little
protective and very energetic. We go for walks about 3-4 times a day,
play tug-of-war and snuggle up on the couch. Our only complaint is
that Chewie is quite the bed hog for a 16 pound dog. Chewie and
Elmo walk quite well together, but tend to ignore each other
otherwise.
Thank you so
much to everyone who has taken great care of Chewie before we got him.
Chewie is still shy around other people. A special thank you to
Gaetan, Chewie's foster father. If it weren't for your love and
patience and tender care for Chewie, he may not have felt relaxed
enough to enjoy our home. Chewie has found his forever home and we
are so grateful to have him with us. He brings us such joy and
happiness.
Thank you
again!

Update June ’10 …
I recently took
Chewie camping to see how he'd react. It was just Chewie and
myself. He was wonderful. He didn't get stressed when in
the woods, nor did he have any adverse reactions with squirrels,
birds, or even the skunk that came for a look-see.
I really don't
understand why anyone would mistreat this pooch. He really likes
kids. Recently, over at a friend's house who has 4 little ones,
Chewie was in a calm state as he played and slept while the kids were
around.
As you can see,
we are glad that this SPCA is a no-kill shelter. And very
grateful that Gaetan (his foster dad) was wonderful with Chewie, and
getting him socialized for us.
The pic with
both dogs was a week earlier, when my wife and I took both dogs
camping. It was a good time had by all.
Update June ’11 …
We changed his name to Chewie mostly because his facial fur turns
golden when it grows long (like Chewbacca). Chewie is doing
great. He's healthy and spoiled rotten. I work from home
as a superintendent. When I come home for lunch, I will let
Chewie relax on the balcony, where he likes to soak up the sun.
He is still a bit skittish when startled, or with other dogs around,
however he is much better behaved with people. We expected that
he'd take about 2 years before he'd relax completely. We're
halfway through that plan. Chewie and the rest of us (a friend
likes to come over a couple times a week, just for Chewie) walk about
1-2 hours a day.
Last year my wife Sherrie had some health problems. Physically,
she is only allowed to walk as exercise. Chewie helps her with
that too. He is a contributing member of our family. We
are very happy to have found him.
Here are a few pictures of him. The one where he's on my knee is
when we are driving back home from camping last month. He really
likes to get tuckered out playing in the country. The next pic
is from last year during the height of camping, around mid-July.
The next one is Chewie relaxing on the balcony. The last one is
of him waiting patiently for a treat. As you can see, he's happy
and his tail is up. I believe that he is doing very well.
