We
adopted Dane (formerly Manny), a Great Dane/Lab mix on the September
4th weekend of 2009 and it was love at first sight! I had taken
our other boy, Miskie, to the water quarry to swim. Upon walking
back to the truck, I met Dane who was on a dog walk with one of the
wonderful volunteers from the shelter.
Three
days later, Dane came to his new home. Initially it was a rocky
start with both boys asserting dominance, Dane learning that he
actually knew how to stand up for himself. But within days, they
both worked it out and became best buds. Dane and Miskie go
everywhere together, sleep on the same pillows and amazingly will even
swap bones!
When he came home,
Dane was very thin from his previous experience but
is quickly filling out - I never have to worry about food wastage with
this boy!! He is also becoming socialized at one of the local
dog parks, quickly overcoming his uncertainty with other dogs.
Dane
is such a wonderful addition to the family and Miskie has never been
happier with his newfound friend.
I am so thankful to the great people at the SPCA who have so much love
to give, always giving every animal who comes in the doors a fighting
chance at the life they deserve. Definitely the next boy or girl
will come from the shelter - it's only too bad I can't bring more
home!!
