I'm writing to let you know how our coconut retriever, Rex (now
renamed Doug), is doing (we adopted him on Nov. 27th).
After adopting Doug, we took him to the vet and were told he has a
heart murmur. The vet said it's mild and wonders whether it might've
been caused
by heartworm at some point (especially since he's from the Caribbean).
Regardless, he seems to be in good health otherwise and he's such a
happy guy that we hope it won't affect him until he's much older.
When he was at the vet's office, while the vet was checking his skin
and fur, she remarked how surprised she was that for a dog of his
size, he was so calm and eager to please. What she didn't realize
(Doug wasn't facing her-he was facing me) was that he was falling
asleep during his examination! We're learning that this is typical of
Doug, though. If you sit and pet him, he calms right down and will
often curl up and close his eyes.
Doug
is such an easygoing sweetheart who has nothing but love to offer
everyone he meets. He adores our kids and loves nothing better than
to fall asleep in your arms (anywhere, anytime!). We are so thankful
and happy that we made the decision to adopt Doug three weeks ago and
we look forward to the many adventures we'll have for years to come.
Thank you so much for matching us up with such an amazing companion
and family member! We couldn't be happier!
