On 1 February 2014, we went to visit your facility for the first time.
Choosing a dog that suited us proved more intimidating in real life
than looking at the profiles on the internet. We ended up being
smitten by
Fannie, a quiet little beagle and took her home.
Fannie
has been with us for a year now and has adapted wonderfully to her new
home. In winter she loves to play in the snow and the cold does not
faze her but she also loves to snooze in front of the fireplace or in
her sunny spot in the corner of the kitchen. In summer she would
never come inside if she didn't have to. She loves to explore our
yard, roll on her back in the grass, or sit and keep watch from one of
her favourite spots.
Sometimes we find her snoozing in the sun, but sometimes we find
freshly-dug holes.
We often take Fannie to the dog runs on Frank St and at Hampton Park.
She is a very social dog and considers everyone, two- or four- legged,
as her friend. She is confident and bold, wrestling and running with
much bigger dogs--especially running, she is very fast. We sometimes
jog together and have run a few 5K races.
Fannie loves going for walks. She could sniff the neighbourhood all
day. She can't go off-leash but in order to give her the best
experience we can, we sometimes put her on a very long cord and take
her into the field out back of our house and let her explore and track
scents.
When Fannie isn't at full throttle, she curls up in a little ball and
sleeps in one of several of her favourite cozy spots around the house.
And when she's had enough of that, she goes on the search for food and
she's not shy about looking anywhere and everywhere.
We occasionally bring her to a doggie day care near where we live when
we both have to be out of the house all day and from all reports and
evidence, she loves it. She has a reputation for stirring up the
other dogs and always comes home obviously tired from a very busy day
of play.
Although Fannie definitely has an independent streak, she can be very
sweet and likes to cuddle. We have taken obedience classes and also
trick and agility classes. Despite being excited and full of energy,
she has
made progress. As one trainer told us, "she's good for a beagle."
Like all beagles, she'll hunt rabbits. She actually caught and killed
her first one last month in our yard--at night, in the snow, and while
on her rope. We're kind of proud of our little hunter.
We love our Fannie.
Thank you so much for all the great work you do taking care of
homeless animals. I am sure one day we will see you again to get
Fannie a brother or sister.
