Gibby

Dexter or Gibson (Gibby) as we have now so fondly ordained him was adopted on February 18, 2012.  We are celebrating one year with our wonderful addition to the family.  Gibby’s description was that of a friendly little boy, quiet and easy going, loves to snuggle on your lap or go for car rides.  While this is all very true, there is so much more to Gibby, he is such a special little guy.  With such a wonderful disposition, Gibby is perpetually happy faced, he’s so positive all the time and always tries to please first.  He’s also extremely intelligent and can learn anything in just a few minutes.

Gibby’s new little brother Oscar traveled to the Quebec SPCA with us to meet his new little friend early Saturday morning.  Then off for a get to know each other walk at Bruce Pit and a trip to Pet Smart to get outfitted and the two of them have been inseparable ever since often conniving together and in cahoots over most things.  Not only do they team up, but they teach each other all the time, They’re never far from each other and they wouldn’t have it any other way.

Gibby is a very rare and unique breed of dog.  Most people are not aware of the Tibetan Terrier breed and nor were we when we adopted Gibby.  As we’ve discovered, Tibetans go back 2,000 years and are considered family members and not pets by the Tibetan Monks in the monastery’s – “the little ones” as they called them.  Never sold, these little guys were only given as gifts and are considered good luck - we feel so fortunate and lucky to have Gibby in our lives, he’s such a wonderful part of our family.  It’s a little ironic in that we always called Oscar the little one and now we have another little one – literally speaking.

Gibby and Oscar have their own fenced in yard where they come and go as they please.  Oscar is teaching Gibby the importance of patrolling the yard to ensure that all rabbits, squirrels and chipmunks know who’s the boss of the back yard, even the birds know thanks to their excellent hard work.  We think Gibby feels that Oscar is a little obsessed with this task however he seems interested enough to follow along and check it out.  Oscar is also an avid soccer player being the Scotsman that he is and is teaching Gibby the joys of the game.

Gibby in turn is teaching Oscar that when called he should come as it usually leads to something good and fun.  Oscar before wouldn't even acknowledge you calling him (typical Westie in his own world) but now he doesn't want to miss out on any attention - funny how that works.  We as well suspect that Gibby might have had a circus background as he can stand on his hind legs and walk around and even do circles.

Gibby is so good with Oscar.  He lets Oscar take toys away from him and even barge in and grab treats from him and he never gets upset with Oscar.  He'll outsmart him though and move on to another toy just to get Oscar going.  Oscar will try to take all the toys for himself and Gibby lets him have his way until he lets his guard down then Gibby's got the toy and has jumped up on the bed where Oscar can't jump - too funny.

These two little ones are just wonderful family members and keep us thoroughly entertained every day, we just love them both.  We would like to thank the Quebec SPCA for the spectacular job you do for all little ones and for looking after Gibby in his time of need, he now has the dog’s life that he so aptly deserves.
