In
January, we headed to the Aylmer SPCA to adopt a puppy. We were
thinking 12-15 weeks old, probably a Shepherd or Husky. We had
seen a few on the website and were excited to meet them. When we
got there and met the puppies, the chemistry just wasn't right.
On a whim, we decided to look at the older dogs. That is when we
first saw Henry. We were told he was a 15 month old Rotti/Lab, 2
breeds we really didn't want but it was love at first sight for Mom
and Dad. We took him for a walk and played with him. He
was so sweet we had to bring him home. We quickly stopped at Petsmart
to exchange the crate we had bought for a bigger one. By the time we
made it home, the kids were in love as well.
He
was crate trained and housebroken already. He loves his new home
and loves to go for walks or play ball and frisbee in the backyard.
He has filled out and gone from a scrawny 70 pounds to a beautiful 90
pounds. We have completed beginner and intermediate training.
He has been to doggie daycare a few times where he has made lots of
friends. He is a calm, loving dog who gets along with everyone
except Pebbles the cat, but they seem to have come to an
understanding. She stays away from him, he stays away from her.
A few weeks after adopting him, we had his DNA checked through
DNAmydog and it turns out he is a Lab/Shepherd, so we did get a
shepherd after all.
Henry has completely changed our mind about adopting an older dog.
Thank you so much for rescuing him. I can't imagine our family
without him.
