I thought that I
would send you a quick update on Lily, and include some photos of her
in her new home, with her new friend (Poppy) and family. She is
settling in very well. Lily likes our dog, Poppy, and Poppy likes
her. The children (and my husband) think that Lily is very sweet and
she was happy to meet everyone when we got home on Friday. She has
quickly let it be known that she likes to cuddle up with someone on
our couch! Yesterday she went for a couple of walks, but was rather
reluctant and slow. Things have changed a lot today: we have been out
about four times, including two short outings to off-leash parks. She
has got a lot faster at walking on the leash and had fun running
around with the other dogs at the parks.
Lily has been
eating very well and letting me know when she is hungry. However, she
seems reluctant to drink water. I am sure that will change once she
is back on dry food! She has been good about having pee-breaks
outside, apart from two little accidents in the house. So we are
doing the crate training. Lily hasn't had a poop yet, which worries
me a bit. I am assuming that she hadn't eaten much after her spaying
and is now just "filling up". I will certainly keep an eye on this.
I have booked to take her to the vet's next week so that she can have
her stitches removed and get checked out.
Bye for now,
Caroline
(Graham, Hugh, Mia,
Lily, Poppy & Diva (the cat))
I
have been meaning to write to you all to let you know how well Lily
is doing. She joined our family about 7 months ago. It took her a
couple of months, and no snow, to really come out of her shell. She
has lots of doggy and human friends at the dog park and now runs and
plays a lot more than she used to. I think that she is on Poppy's
exercise regimen! The two dogs and our cat, Diva, spent a lot of time
at the cottage this summer. They all had a blast and really bonded
well...to such an extent that Diva, who is an old lady, would join us
for our daily lakeside walks. It is interesting to see how the three
of them now spend time together at home snoozing under the dining
table. Lily has also helped Poppy get used to car rides: Poppy
gets motion-sickness, whereas Lily views the car as a big, comfy crate
on wheels. Now they snuggle up together and, touch wood, there is
less cleaning up to do afterwards :)
We do get a bit of a window into her old life in that she insists on
keeping all of her "puppies" in line: it didn't take her long to
discover the stashes of soft toys that our children have. The
"puppies" get moved
around from one bed to another. They also get brought back into the
crate if they have somehow "wandered" off to the children's rooms.
Her favourites at the moment are a small black and tan Beany Baby dog
and a large orange cat.
Lily is such a gift. She is our "therapy dog", being such a calm and
gentle soul in our busy household.
Thank you,
Caroline, Graham Hugh & Mia
