Mardi

Hello, my name is Mardi.  It used to be Tammy, but my new pet parents changed it.

I was adopted from the Aylmer SPCA on February 22nd by Chris and Cendrine and I gained a new big brother and when I say big, I mean big.  He is a Newfoundland dog named Mudley.  He is pretty lazy and slow so I have to do the running around and smelling for both of us.  When we go out for walks at the park, I usually go and scout ahead and then come and report back.  Cendrine usually has a yummy treat waiting for me when I get back, but sometimes Mudley gets it.  That guy sure loves his food!

I LOVE to meet new dogs and chase them.  If I can't catch them, I bark and whine as I am running.  Chris and Cendrine think that is pretty funny.  I like all the dogs I meet, but I don't like to wrestle or play rough.  Cendrine thinks I am too much of a gentle soul for that.  Chris says I am settling in really well; I love to snuggle up to him or Cendrine when they are on the couch with their laptops.

Since I have been with my new pet parents, I have seen a nice doctor because I had a bit of an infection at my spaying incision.  I have also been to the doggie spa (the nice lady there gave me a relaxing bath and a nice trim).  It was still a pretty exhausting day; I was fast asleep when Cendrine came to pick me up.  I didn't even hear her come in!  I have started a basic obedience class and I think I am doing quite well.  My sit-stay could be a little better, but I am working on it.  I am also working on not barking when people or cars go by the house.  I know how much it annoys everyone in the house, but I can't help myself.

I am also learning how to participate in skijoring with Cendrine.  That is when Cendrine is on cross-country skis and I am in a harness in front of her.  Right now Cendrine is running behind me while I learn some of the commands.  I am learning to turn left and right on command, but they have funny names.  Left is Ha and right is Gee.  Cendrine sounds funny when she has to tell me to gee gee gee!!  But the hardest command is the "on by".  That's when I am supposed to ignore everything around me and keep going straight.  It's so hard!!  I am even supposed to ignore oncoming dogs.  But with practice I am sure I will learn to control my impulses.

That's it for now.  I'll let everyone know how the summer goes and I'll send new pictures then.  Chris thinks I may be a good swimmer, so I can't wait to try it.

Talk to you soon.

Mardi
