I
just
wanted to drop you a line to let you know how Aries is doing. We
have officially named her Maya as she did not respond to Aries with us
and we wanted to have her know the name right away. She is
responding now much better, she follows me around all over the house.
She
came in on Saturday and claimed a corner of the dining room for
herself. We bought her a new pillow on Sunday and she is in
heaven. You will find her either lying on the patio in the sun
or walking around in the backyard or being fed all
sorts of goodies and being loved and adored.
She is
finally walking with us now and not afraid anymore to walk through the
woods. We still keep her on leash as she sometimes gets worried
and wants to bolt home but otherwise she is starting to realize what
it means to go for a walk with all sorts of other dogs. Just
now, I took her to the beach; I don't think she's ever been to a
beach, she was a little worried about the water and she did not go in
but she liked the sand.
We've
trained her to use the doggy door so she can come in and out as she
pleases. She is very smart. I'm working on the sit and
down commands but it's hard as she shuts down when I touch her behind
ever so gently and then she just walks away. It will take time
and trust I imagine.
I've attached a few pictures of her with her old and new pillow.
I think she looks very happy. My family is very much in love
with her and everyone is especially happy that we can feed this dog as
many treats as we want. BONUS!!!!
She's
only had one accident in the house; we had to leave her for 2 hours
and we did not want to crate her. She hates the crate and we
could not bring ourselves to cage her. We left it open but she
never went in so we did not force her. She seems to be adjusting
and she's starting to focus on me; she is still a bit afraid of
Tobias, I think men in general.
We
love her and wanted to send you a big THANK YOU from the bottom of our
hearts. She is the sweetest thing since chocolate and we are so
happy to have found her.
Sincerely,
Tina &
Tobias
(Here are some updated pictures of Maya. Her on the couch - she is a
real couch potato - and her playing with some friends in the
neighbourhood. Maya has reached 90 pounds now and she is still
hungry.)
Update June ’10 …
We lost our dear Keesha just before Christmas, her kidneys just shut
down and she did not want to go on anymore. Then we got Bella in
February, she was 5 months old at the time and has become Maya's new
best friend. I've attached some pictures of Maya so you can see
how she's doing. We keep meaning to bring her by but she doesn't
stay white long enough. We give her a bath in anticipation of
taking her there and then they play and roll ... oh well, they are
having fun and that's all that matters.
Maya
is doing great although we've had to put her on a little bit of a diet
... little miss chubby likes to eat and we have too much fun feeding
her. So, we thought it would be better for her to cut back a
little so it might be easier on her joints. She still has
trouble walking; I don't think that will ever get normal but she gets
her two walks a day and she actually plays with other dogs now.
It's great.
Well, I hope everyone is doing well at the SPCA. Thanks again
for a blessing of a dog. She's amazing and we love her dearly.
Update June ’11 …
Maya
on our boat in the sunset.
