When
we brought one year old Parker home last year, we had a few worries;
he was afraid of the inside stairs and was very shy with everyone,
especially men. We thought for awhile that we would have to return
him although we were already attached to him but he shied so much from
my husband (now called Parker’s Dad) that we felt we might not be the
right choice for him.
We
called in professional help as a last resort and things started to
turn around slowly but surely.
The
crazy mutt would gallop up and down all the outside stairs but only a
few months ago did I get him to go up and down inside. Believe
it or not ‘someone’ (Dad) would lead him around by the outside and
through the patio door so he wouldn’t be alone while we were watching
TV.
Parker
loves to swim and ride around perched at the front of our wooden
rowboat; as we spend most of our time at the lake house he had ample
opportunity last summer. He’s a joy to swim with as he carefully
swims around people and not at them. He has a ‘best girl’ whose name
is Bailey and they get together once, sometimes twice, every weekday
to run, play, chase each other and then have a long walk.
For
all that he is an extremely active dog, he is the best behaved in the
house and even more so in the tiny apartment we have in town.
We
still have training to do on recall which is perfect about 75% of the
time and the definition of how long ‘stay’ means but we are working on
improving as responsible, well-behaved dog owners every day.
Thanks
ever so much for leading us to Parker; we are assuming he feels the
same way about being led to us :o)
Terry,
Doug & Parker
