Pasha

To all of Pasha's friends at the West Quebec SPCA:

Time sure does fly when you're having fun!  Pasha has now been in her new home for four weeks and is making  excellent progress.  She is so well behaved and is just a delightful little girl!

Given her sad story, I was prepared for lots of 'challenges', but she just hasn't presented any.  She is still quite cautious, which is only to be expected, and spends the better part of her day in the safety of her crate.  But as you can see from the attached photos, she is starting to venture outside her crate.  In fact, lately, when she thinks I'm not looking, I've seen her leave her crate to go 'snooping'.

She is much better on a leash now and walks beside me most of the time.  Although she is still quite shy with strangers, she loves to meet the other neighbourhood dogs.  In fact, the only time I have seen her wag her tail so far is when she meets another dog.  I think she will be an excellent walking companion, and we are both very much looking forward to spring when we can hit the nature trails for some serious squirrel-watching.

Thanks to you all for caring for this sweet creature and making it possible for me to bring her into my home.

Update December '08 ...

Pasha has been in her new home now for almost 10 months and she is making slow but steady progress.  She is such a gentle, timid soul and is still adjusting to the comforts of a 'real home'.  Her crate is still, without question, her most comfortable place to be.  So we continue to work on building her self confidence.

Pasha does enjoy the outdoors and is an amazing little walker.  We walk every morning before breakfast, sometimes for close to an hour, and no matter the pace she keeps up with no effort.  She also loves to spend time with me when I'm working in the garden and really seems to be at peace as she lays in the grass and watches the world go by.

We spent some time at obedience school this past summer, where she made a real hit as the oldest student.  Although she did not graduate at the head of her class, she loved mingling with the other puppies and just causing a disturbance.

Pasha is without question a wonderful companion and friend, and I love her dearly.
