It’s
been a week now since we brought Patches home with us and he is doing
great! We honestly could not have asked for a better dog.
David says he is
totally different from the Patches that he knew at the shelter.
I personally had only met Patches once before getting him, so I was a
little concerned as to how we would get along or how he would listen
to me, but everything is fine.
Since bringing him home with us, he has gotten used to the house.
He takes to his cage well and we can always find him sitting in it
nicely, waiting for us if we have gone out. There’s only been a
couple of peeing accidents in the house but no damage. We found
out that he has a liking for flip flops and slippers so we have to
keep those out of the way, otherwise we will find him sneaking away
with one in his mouth.
The
aggressive biting everyone feared turned into nibbling when excited,
and with some training, is now going away altogether. He likes
to dig, chase frogs and loves to bike with David. He is simply
amazing.
He has already met other dogs in the neighbourhood as well as people.
Everyone always comments on how good looking he is. He went to
the vet on Monday and did great. Lots of kisses from the vet and
didn’t even squirm when he was vaccinated. He enjoyed the car
ride there and back, eventually falling asleep on the ride. He’s
eating well and drinks so much water! He’s also learning to slow
down as he eats, as he used to gobble everything up in a matter of
seconds. We’ve been feeding him twice a day and it seems to suit
him.
We are so happy that Patches is part of our family now. Thank
you so much for saving him for us. Attached are some photos.
Sincerely,
Kathleen, David and Patches
Update November '12
Patches is doing great. As you can see he is ready for Halloween!
He had a bit of a hard time adjusting to me going back to work in
September, but we are happy to say that we are in our 3rd week of
coming
home to a happy dog.
He's been to a few dog parks, has met lots of family members and has
met
all sorts of dogs, big and small.
David is teaching him all sorts of things, like staying, shaking the
paw, rolling over, going onto his mat or into his cage. He's learned
to take things gently from our hands and to let us take things from
his mouth. He's very fast at learning and just loves doing it.
Here Patches is celebrating David's birthday. We learned that he was
a bit frightened by the balloons, but it passed once he knew they were
not
harmful.
