Quincy

My name is Quincy, and I was adopted on July 12, 2012 from the SPCA of Western Quebec.  I had a long drive to get to my new home, and even crossed on the ferry.  I did pretty well although I really didn’t know what was happening to me and I was really scared.  I did end up getting car sick just before my long journey ended.  But my new owners didn’t seem to mind.

The next thing I knew is they took me to a store, where I picked out my new bed.  I really enjoy relaxing in it when my owners are watching TV.  I arrived at my new home and I had a lot to overcome.  I had a new name, I think I understood the French language before, I had a brand new territory and I wasn’t sure of how to go up and down stairs.  My new owners carried me up and down and sometimes showed me how to do it on a leash.

Again, I was real nervous and I didn’t explore too much the first few days.  It didn’t take me too long though, by the end of week one, I was obeying commands like come or stop and I was actually allowed outside without a very long rope, and I could do the stairs, but they still are a challenge.   I even responded to my new name.  I never would run away from here.

I had my first visit with the doctor, and they told my new owners that I was very sick with kidney and liver disease and I also only weighed 18 lbs.  The doctor advised that maybe I should be returned to the SPCA, but my owners decided they already loved me and were going to give me the best life I could have for whatever time I may have.  After a special diet, medication and many blood tests, my disease seems to be under control, and I now weigh a happy 30 lbs.

Although I love my own bed, I much prefer sleeping on the bed with my owners for the night.  They seem to like it when I am with them, and it also makes me feel very safe.  I am very quiet at night and I sleep until the last one is out of bed.  It is so comfortable.

I keep watch when I hear something outside, sometimes it is one of my owners coming home and I get real excited.  I don’t like when one of them goes out.  Usually both are at home as they are both retired and spend all day with me.  We like to play fetch, which I am very good at and also I love to run as fast as I can around the coffee table.

I also love to lie on my back, so I can get a belly rub.  Sometimes I just fall asleep like this.

My new owners are giving me lots of love and spoiling me just as any puppy should be treated.  They still miss their beloved Toby after 13 years, but I am a new chapter in their lives and I am bringing them lots of love and happiness.  Thank you to all the wonderful people of the SPCA who give their time to finding us good homes.

Update September '14

Just a small note to let you know that Quincy is doing excellent.  It has been over two years now since we adopted him from the SPCA, and we love him dearly.  He has become the most loyal pet you can have.  I noticed you have my first comments of him on "Happy Tails", thank you for that.  His kidney and liver disease is still under control, and he is doing very well.

I have attached a couple of photos.  Thank you again, we love him so much.
