Hi, my
name is Rusty. I am now a 7 year-old beautiful English type
yellow Labrador. I look exactly like Marley in the movie "Marley
and me" except that Linda says I am more handsome. I was adopted
from the Aylmer SPCA on February 16, 2008 by Linda and Marcel.
They wanted a Labrador … and there I was. They fell in love with
me the minute they saw me, even though they thought I was a bit of a
big guy (I weighted 90 pounds…). As soon I walked into my new home, I
had them wrapped around my big paw! They let me use the whole
house, made sure that I had a nice fenced backyard with my own gazebo
in the back for those rainy summer days. (There is no way my
owner would let me out all day on a cold day; for those winter days,
they hired the beautiful Catherine to take me out for walks.)
While
they watch my diet, Linda is always very understanding and very easy
to convince that I am a picky boy when it comes to food. When
Marcel is not around, I always end up with special menus or treats … I
love toasts with peanut butter ….
Going
for walks in the nearby park, especially with Marcel who makes me
fetch a green tennis ball, is another of my great pleasures.
When he shows me the leash I just jump like a kangaroo in the house!
It takes minutes before I settle down and race outside … sniffing big
time my way to the park! Marcel says my nose must work overtime!
When
Linda and Marcel come back from work, I love to play and race in the
house even if it means that my big tail sends pictures flying off the
living room table. Every night it is the same scenario … That
still makes them laugh!
Linda
and Marcel bring me along pretty much everywhere they go. Being
the only dog of both sides of the families, I am a big hit especially
with Catherine, Florence, Francois and Laurent!
I also
love car rides; I like to reflect on my life sitting in the back
watching the passersby with my head out the window and my ears
flapping in the wind!
This
summer we went to Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard. Linda and
Marcel were so proud of me when people on the street stopped us to say
how handsome I was!
Marcel
just retired before Christmas which means that we will have even more
time together for walks, sniffs and swims in the lake!
One
last thing: when I got adopted I panted a lot even when I did
not exercise. Linda and Marcel consulted 3 different veterinarians.
They did not want me to go under surgery feeling that I went through
enough
already.
They decided to wait and see. I took a little while but after a
few months, the panting has disappeared. Looks like I was an
anxious little guy who needed to feel secure. The only little
fear that remains is my fear of the basement. There is just no
way I will go down there or any other basements for that matter and
that is ok with Linda and Marcel; they understand!
I love
my new life! Big thanks again to Jennifer, Carole and Donna from
the Aylmer SPCA!!
