I got
Sam, formerly known as Samson, from the SPCA of Western Quebec in
March 2010. He was a 3 year old who had been rescued by a good
samaritan after being posted for sale on Kijiji. The story I was
told when I adopted him was that he had been listed on Kijiji and a
woman went to check him out; he was too big for her, but she couldn't
bear to leave him in the conditions he was living in. So, she
paid for him and brought him to the SPCA.
He was 20lbs lighter than he is now and according to his vet, quite
thin. His grandma (my mom) has since changed that, with people
food and dog cookies every time he visits, which is usually 7 days a
week.
Sam loves spending the days at Grandma's swimming in the pool, playing
with her 2 cats, spending hours at Bruce Pit or just lounging on the
couch. I even taught him to climb the ladder as there are no
stairs in the pool.
As
fate would have it, after adopting Sam, I noticed that we have the
exact same birthdays, 20 years apart. Back in April, we
celebrated my 25th and his 5th birthdays together, along with my
roommate's 23rd birthday, not surprisingly, on the same day as well.
(see picture attached)
To make a long story a little shorter, Sam is happy and healthy and
loving his new family. He does tricks like giving high fives,
jumping to get a cookie being held about 5 feet in the air, destroying
pool noodles (a favourite of his) and mooching from the dinner table.
He still answers to Samson although more often he's referred to as
Sam, Sambo or Samalamadingdong-dog. :)
Thank you to everyone there at the SPCA for helping me find a new best
friend after losing my black lab at 15 years old in February 2010.
All the best,
Kathleen and Sam
Update April '14
Sam turned 7 on April 12, 2014 and as you
can see, is still a pup at heart! He's a rescue and 3 years
after adopting him all he wants to do is snuggle (and bark, but that's
ok). Just figured I'd send another update. Thanks again
for all the wonderful work you all do. I was in over the weekend
to drop off a bunch of donations, I'll continue to collect at the
office for the shelter. Thanks again!!
