Scooby

I had seen Scooby a few times at the shelter.  He seemed to be a happy fellow but also calm.  He was a bit nervous in the car, but when we got home he came right into the house and said hello to my 11 year old Dalmatian.

I think he must have come from a pretty good home as he is not nervous or scared.  He must have had pretty good training as he knows his commands.  At only 10 months he is peppy and doesn’t always have time to listen, but he is starting school at Carolark in a few weeks.  He listens to his name and comes instantly even the first day at Conroy pit.  No problem having him loose.

He has been to the lake and loves swimming and playing with the other dogs.  Is he ever fast!  Too bad that my Dal can’t run and play so much anymore as she used to be really fast as well in her younger days. He has been to the office with me and was really good.

Scooby is a really funny guy.  In the morning he jumps into the shower when I am showering and sits in front of me.  I don’t know if it is because he wants to be with me so badly or if it is because he likes the water running down on him.  I guess I won’t have any problem washing him.  I have great laughs with him.  A real little treat, my Scooby Dog!

Thanks to all of you for being so good to him at the shelter!!  He says hello too.

I will take some good pictures and send in soon.  We are going camping next week.

Update December '08 ...

Scooby here, it is awhile since I saw you guys up there at the Aylmer SPCA.  I am doing fine, have been through my 7 week course learning lots of things, but I realized one thing though.  Why try to remember all the different things people want me to do when all I have to do is a cute roll-over?  I just roll-over for everything and if it doesn't work the first time, I just do it quickly 6 or 7 times more and my owner usually thinks I am so funny and cute that she gives me a treat anyway.  If I don't get a treat I just give a silly little small dog bark.  At least I get her attention.

I have been to a lot of different places; all the Provincial Parks in this area, had a great time at the dog beaches in Bon Echo and Sandbanks for example.  I love going in the car.  There is so much to look at the whole time.  Conroy Pit and Bruce Pit are great places to run around and chase all the other cool dogs.  And squirrels ... they are just great to chase.  They are even faster than I am.  If there were no trees, I would probably catch the little rascals.

The only bad habit I have is that my owner has such a good tasting house.  You should check out the baseboards and door frames.  Yummy!!  I have lots of chew toys, but who wants to chew them when I am alone?  I think it looks really cool with all the chew marks on the white wood.  Unfortunately, my owner doesn't like it.  Strange person.  In I go again into the crate when she goes to work.  The crate is really big though, so not too bad.  I always wait in the crate when she starts getting my treats ready.

Unfortunately, my beautiful friend with black spots, Meg the Dalmatian, has gone to rest.  Her hips and back were really painful.  She was nice to me all the time, so I miss her.  When my owner gets really sad and missing her Meg, I just do a few tricks, mainly roll-overs, and that usually makes her laugh again.  I wouldn't be surprised though if she comes home with a new Dal one day.

My owner will get organized one day and send a few more pictures.  She unfortunately can't come to your Christmas thing as she was already booked.

Well, this was a long letter, but I just had soooo much to tell you all.  Hope you all have a nice Christmas and lots of hugs and licks to all of you great guys and girls and of course to all the dogs.

Lots of love from SCOOBY DOO, the one and only really cool dog!!!!!  (you know, the one with the beautiful underbite...)

Update July ‘09 ...

Scooby has been around PEI, NB and Gaspe this June.  What an incredible traveller he is.  Just sleeps for hours while we drive.  Hardly knew that he was there.  We tried to figure out how to take him on long bike rides and this is what we came up with.  He just loves sitting on the back of the bike and looking at things.  You have to be inventive sometimes ...

Update September '10 ...

I am sending a collage with Scooby trying to kill the leaf blower.  Don't know how it will look when you get it.  I will also send some funny ones from when he is in the tree chasing squirrels.

Scooby and I went on a trip by ourselves to PEI for a couple of weeks.  He is great company and travelling companion.  Ella had to stay home as I didn't have room for her in the car.

Update December '12

I don't know if any of you remember Scooby as it is a few years since I adopted the little rascal.  Anyway, he never stops to amaze me with his funny ways.  A terrier, no doubt.

I have to share the latest story with you:  A couple of days ago, I asked a visiting friend of mine to just let the dogs out in the back while I put my shoes and jacket on to take them for a walk.  Well, the world around here is full of squirrels.  They absolutely have to be chased by dogs and that is the doggy rule number one.

So if Scooby doesn't run right up the tree after the little silly critter.  The tree is leaning a bit so Scooby just ran up the tree and out some of the thicker branches.  He has jumped up in to a part of a tree before, but never as high as this.  Of course, he did not dare to come down.  We tried to coax him down with treats and so on, but no.  That was too scary even for Scooby.  I have no long ladder, just a stepstool and that was not high enough.  So what to do.

Phone the fire department and say that my dog is stuck up a tree?  Anyway, my friend stepped up on top of the handle of the stepladder while I held it steady and crawled high enough to reach Scooby so he could get him down.  What a commotion.  I got a good laugh and so did people walking down the bike path.  I am sending you a couple of pics that I took.  They are a bit dark so he shows more as a silhouette but I think you can see him.

Hugs and kisses from Scooby!!

Update August '13

A friend of mine has three cats.  Well, he has a mouse problem.  I think the cats bring them in.  So he calls me and asks me to bring Scooby and Ella to his place to catch his mice.  It is not the first time.  So I bring the Mouseketeer team over and leave them there.  Three hours later I come back to collect them and of course, they have caught two little critters.  So proud of my team.  LoL.

What Scooby the terrier does is that he marks where the critter is.  This time it was the fridge.  So my friend pulls the fridge out and when the mice run out from there, Ella (the dalmatian) is ready to pounce and Scooby follows.  And the job is done!  They got lots of goodies and a run in the park before I brought them home.

Once they were over there and chased a chipmunk out.  Luckily the chipmunk got outside and was not killed.  Might this be a new business for me?...

Where were the cats, you might ask.  Well, I am not sure if they were lazing around or maybe outside.  I told my friend to stop feeding the cats so much...

I think this is a great story to share with you if you remember Scooby the Great.  What a catch he was.  I love him so much.  So now he is off until the next mouse problem.

All the best from Monica, Scooby and Ella
