A few months ago I was at the SPCA of Western Quebec and purchased a
black German shepherd / Husky by the name of Shasta, & at the time
someone had requested that I give an update once she settled in. Here
it is...
We had a bit of a rough go at the beginning. She was extremely hyper,
overly excited and very easily distracted. She peed in the house
twice the first week but hasn't been destructive at all. (Other than
her LOVE of dirty socks lol)
One of her stitches came out, so we had to go to the vet and she was
on
antibiotics for 10 days.
I
enrolled her in obedience school & today was the last day and she
passed!! I am planning on enrolling her in agility classes very soon!
She goes to doggy day care on Mondays and Wednesdays and when she
comes home she goes right to bed! She loves it there! : )
She's overly distracted about everything and anything & as a result it
is very difficult to get her attention when we are outside. (Working
on that one). She gets two walks a day. I bought her a backpack and I
put weights in it (8lbs) to try to get her more tired after her walks.
I have been struggling to get her to gain weight. She's only gained
about 5 pounds in the last 2 1/2 months, but I'm considering changing
her food the blue brand for a while.
Shasta
is still a bit of a handful although I wouldn't trade her for any
other dog. I am looking forward to spending some summer days at the
cottage with her & from what I can tell during her walks she will love
it there!!
I've included a few photos of Shasta for you to see. Everybody tells
me how beautiful Shasta looks : )
Take care!
