I
wanted to let everyone at the SPCA of Western Quebec know how well
Simba is doing. I adopted him 2 years ago and he has been a joy
to own ever since. This dog certainly has a lot of character and
quite the personality. He is always “talking” to me when he is
excited and I can pretty much tell what he wants by the way he barks.
Simba has grown very comfortable with his new home – jumping up on the
couch and snuggling beside me when I watch a hockey game is something
he loves to do.
Every morning he goes out for a walk and then he gets a morning treat.
Of course being a dog, he “expects” that treat at that moment.
Simba loves it when I throw the treat and make him chase it - then he
picks it up and prances away wagging his tail with his prized treat in
his mouth. When I get home from work, he is always very excited
to see me and he knows it's time to go to the soccer fields nearby for
another outdoor adventure.
I have noticed he is very good at communicating his needs – he paws
his dish if he wants more water or food, when he needs to go out he
either scratches the door or stands in front of it and looks back at
me as if to say “alright, unless you want a mess in the house, open
this door now!”. My neighbour has just gotten an energetic German
Shepherd and he and Simba chase each other in the backyard – good way
to burn off some energy.
Simba
absolutely loves going for car rides and perks up anytime I say the
words “do you wanna go for a drive?”. Since I also love going
for drives in the country, needless to say he is with me all the time.
I have taken many trips out east to Nova Scotia and Simba is my
constant travelling companion. He is great in the car- very calm
but loves to check out things all the time. Every morning during
those days in Nova Scotia, I would grab a coffee and go for a walk on
the beach – Simba beside me the whole time. He really enjoys the
outdoors. Simba loves to lie in the sun and sleep either on my
back step or on the kitchen floor with the sun shining through the
patio doors.
This rambunctious sheltie will do just about anything for food and at
times I am guilty of giving him human snacks – a cookie, timbit,
pizza crust or steak bone. So I guess I spoil him. I do
enjoy his company very much – Simba knows he is loved and has
everything a dog needs. At night he zips upstairs as soon as I
say the words “ok Simba, time to go to bed”. Every night you can
find Simba sleeping at the end of my bed, warm and happy in his new
home.
I want to say thank you to the SPCA for everything you do. If it
wasn't for you, I would never have found Simba.
