Daddy Long Legs

You can subtitle this one "The Supercar that Time forgot" or even just "Lest we forget." Why? Hey, there were two official muscle cars for the business man, aptly dubbed "The Executive Branch" by the Rapid Transit System fellas at Plymouth. This was a C body, but one like no other C body before it. The Sport Fury GT for 1970 could only be had with two engines, the 440 4v (350 hp/480 ft.-lbs) or the 440 six barrel: 390 hp and a hellish 490 ft.-lbs. of torque. The only rear end you could get was the now-revered 9 3/4" DANA. Strangely enough, the car was only available form the factory with rather conservative 3.23 or 2.76 gear ratios! No big deal, that's a 30 minute swap, eh Tom, Stewart, Vic et cie.? Were I ever fortunate enough to possess o ne of these behemoths, I'd instantly swap in a 3.54 or better ring and pinion. "All the more to eat you with, Little Red Riding Hood!" said the Big Bad Wolf as it blew the doors off the unsuspecting Brand X street competition.

The Sport Fury GT could be had with every colour but the following from Ma MoPar: DY3 (Yellow Gold); FY1 (Lemon Twist); EV2 (Tor-Red); EK2 (Vitamin C); FJ5 (Lime Light); FE5 (Rallye Red); or the now-ubiquitous FC7 (Inviolet Metallic). Let's face it, some of those colours would like mighty rude on a car that big. Not all are even suitable for B bodies, but what the hey, it's all a matter of taste. Perhaps I would clone or make my own ‘one of none' Vitamin C or Inviolet Daddy Long Legs if I found the suitab le subject. More likely I'd paint ‘er FT6 (Burnt Tan Metallic); ER6 (Scorch Red); FK5 (Deep Burnt Orange); FK3 (Burnt Orange Metallic) or even the EB3 (Ice Blue Metallic) shown in the 1970 Rapid Transit System brochure, it's sweet and certainly rare. If y ou're looking for one, be fast. I had a line on the one (as I wrote in the previous FSN) for $1,100 CAN with a freshly rebuilt 440 and tranny too. No rust. Needed paint, but that's all. It sold before the issue of the Old Car Trader even hit the news stan ds! You might be better off in terms of both availablity and price to buy an S23, plain Sport Fury, Gran Fury or even just a ‘bottom drawer' Fury and clone it. You'd have one of the most interesting MoPar sleepers around: Daddy Long Legs!
