Anti-Aircraft and Artillery
March 1943. Moved to the anti-aircraft team, as a radio operator, telephone operator and K3 (24cm Artillery Canon ).
4x2cm quadruple artillery guns and 8x8.8cm flat guns, which had rapid fire capability. We were fully motorized. In the end, we had 42 confirmed downed aircraft and with the 8.8cm many Russian attacks were prevented.
Only one 8.8cm gun with a crew was lost, we were listening to the conversation between two Russian tanks, turns out there was a whole pack of tanks; the single artillery gun and crew had no chance.
At times we had Russians who spoke German with us, who translated the intercepted communications.
