Items for Bench Staff
Police Checks Required!
Each member of the bench staff, and any parent/adult who helps out on the ice, is required, by MDRA and the Ontario Ringette Association, to have a "police records check for persons seeking VOLUNTEER roles primarily to serve the vulnerable sector of the population" that was submitted within the last three years. Forms are available at the Leitrim Police Station (or any Ottawa Police station) as well as on this page. Usually individuals take care of submitting these themselves, but to make things simpler and faster, MDRA will submit all forms received by November 7th at the photo sessions. Along with the completed form, you must include copies of two pieces of allowable identification (see form for detail). Please complete this form, and submit it to your team manager by November 7th, where they will be collected and processed as a batch. If you miss this date, you will have to submit the form yourself. This is mandatory to continue working directly with the players.
Bench Staff Certification
Coaches, trainers and
managers must have completed their certification by January 8, 2007. The
exact certification requirements are listed here in
the Ontario Ringette Association coaching information. Information on upcoming
coaching courses is listed here. For additional
information on coaching, contact Tom Facette (see below). For
information on manager courses, contact Mike Donoghue (see below). Once
certified, a copy of your certificate must be submitted to MDRA (through your
manager).

Bench Staff - Helmets
Required
During a game, any bench staff member who ventures
onto the ice to assist a player must be wearing a helmet. Make sure you
have a helmet on hand that fits reasonably well. Also, ideally the adult
assisting a player will be a woman, or there should be a woman on the ice
(wearing a helmet!) assisting the player as well. Officials will
be enforcing the helmet rule.
Coaches
Make sure you browse the resources on the MDRA Web site's Coaches page -- lots of good, useful info here!
