In 1869 when Michael Rochford married Elizabeth McCabe

Rochford motto: Candor dat viribus alas “Truth gives wings to strength”
McCabe motto: Aut Vincere Aut Mori “Either to conquer or die”

Michael Rochford (1846-1913) and Elizabeth McCabe (1849-1921) of Leicester, England were married on 13th November 1869 in Staleybridge, England.  They had eight offspring, three of whom came to Canada and one who went to the USA.

Their ofspring, George Edward Rochford (1873-1921) and his wife Elizabeth “Lizzie” Thompson (1873-1960) brought their family to Montreal a century ago, and were followed by Joseph (1876 -1951), Catherine (1880-1955) who went to Pittsburg USA and Alice (1882-1939).

The descendants of those who remained in England can be counted on one hand, while the North American clan numbers in the hundreds. Must be something in the water! They are now spread across Canada and into the United States.

The 2006 Rochford Family Reunion was held in Montreal on Labor Day weekend, September 2-3, 2006 at the Manoir D'Youville. We were pleased that so many of you attended. We’d love to hear from you with suggestions and comments for future reunions.
