On January 31st, 2014, Victor Mallette passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, ending his ongoing struggle with Parkinsons. He is survived by his wife Eileen, four children and partners; Kirk (Janis), Kim (Cherie), Leslie, and Karen (Martin), seven grandchildren; Kaolin, Clayton, Tosha, Ashley, Jared, Aaron and Leigh and two great grandchildren; Adria and Lucas. Victor was born in Montreal in 1925 to Adrian and Gladys Mallette, in Montreal, Quebec. He had two brothers Raymond and Paul. In 1942, at age 17, Victor joined the Navy. An avid and talented skier Vic haunted the sloped of the St. Adele Ski area north of Montreal catching the eye of Eileen Roberts. They were married and moved to Calgary where their two sons were born and then moved back to Montreal and had two girls. Summers were water skiing at the cottage on Lac Muskinonge and winters downhill skiing at the Green Rocks Mallette/Wiley ski lodge at Mont Tremblant. In 1975 Vic headed out to Vancouver, B.C. and started a new job with the family eventually following him. Many adventures will be remembered sailing their 27 foot sloop on the Misty II (named after their dog) and skiing from the family built cabin at Whistler. In 1990 Vic and Eileen moved to Vernon, B.C. to retire. From their home on Okanagan Lake they continued to ski at Silver Star Mtn. and enjoyed swimming and water skiing on Okanagan Lake. Known for his great steaks, Vic and Eileen’s was the place to be for good food and company. During these years he loved barbershop singing and being part of the Molly Boyd choir. Parkinsons did not define him, but with dignity he battled everyday to maintain his sense of humour and enjoy the day. Vic stopped skiing at 83, but continued to swim lengths at the pool. In his last days at Vernon Jubilee Hospital Vic handed in his food order chuckling as he requested barbeque steak - RARE and ice cream from allowed any time to required all the time. Thank you to the staff and residents of Carrington Place and Coldstream Meadows. Thank you to the staff of DVA and Vernon Jubilee Hospital (especially those up on Three North). In lieu of flowers, donations to support Parkinson Research may go to www.parkinsons.bc.ca. The family plans to get together at a later date to celebrate Vic’s life. Sorely missed! Totally Loved. A life lived fully ... to be celebrated and remembered by all who knew him
