March Break activities in Ottawa

If you're staying in the area for the March Break, there are plenty of activities going on to keep the kids entertained.

(Click on graphic to see more...)

City of Ottawa community centres will be open, and many museums in the region are also offering opportunities for family fun. For example, you may want to check out Dino Idol at the Museum of Nature and help decide which one out of five fossils should be cracked open for the facility's next research project. The Museum of Civilization is also offering the chance to catch a special greeting from Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield with a special intro to the IMAX film "Space Station."

Many interesting camps are happening over the break. Children 7-12 can take part in Spy Camp at the Diefenbunker. The Shenkman Arts Centre along with the Ottawa School of Speech and Drama are hosting a number of kids arts camps, including improv, musical theatre, pottery, and magic. and for those looking to embrace outdoor winter activities one last time, nearby ski hills are also expected to be open.

UCDSB waiting for Labour Board decision
(Tuesday, January 29, 2013) It could be another few days before a labour dispute between the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) and its elementary teachers' union is settled. The board challenged the teachers' boycott of extra curricular activities and now they're waiting for a ruling from the Ontario Labour Relations Board.

A spokesperson for Upper Canada said Tuesday, further challenges from the union are delaying the process as they fight to have after school and additional programming restored at their schools.

The UCDSB has three schools in the Rockland area. They are:
Rockland District High School; Rockland Public School; and Plantagenet Public School.
