Navan: Multiple people hurt after stabbing on Mothers'
Day
(Sunday, May 13, 2018) Two people were treated for
stab wounds and a third suffered minor injuries in a Sunday morning attack in the 3000 block of Kentucky Lane in
the Navan area.
Emergency crews were called to the scene of the stabbings shortly before noon, an Ottawa Paramedic Service spokesperson
said.
A 58-year-old man suffered multiple stab wounds and was the most seriously hurt, the paramedic service said.
His injuries were initially considered life-threatening, but paramedics intervened and his condition was upgraded
to serious but stable. Police not seeking suspects.
A 49-year-old woman was also stabbed and was listed in serious but stable condition.
Paramedics also treated a 23-year-old woman for "superficial trauma" to her head and lower body.
Ottawa police said the force's partner assault unit was investigating and that they were not looking for any suspects.
Neither police nor the paramedic service would say where in Navan the incident occurred. |

Clarence-Rockland burn ban lifted
(Friday, May 11, 2018) The burn ban
has been lifted, however you still need local permits to have any kind of fire in your back yard. Check the C-R
bylaw office for more information.
Ottawa Fire Services issued a city-wide fire ban two weeks ago, hoping to prevent anygrass or brush fires before
they started. Clarence-Rockland Fire Department (CRFD) was under the same burn ban.
This means that no fires are allowed, whether you are burning your leaves and yard rakings, or sitting around a
back yard fire pit.
However, before you light up that back yard fire, call the number on your fire permit... Yes, you still require
fire permit, and given the fine, it is worth the $25 to pay for the permit. The number is: 613-580-2880. Listen to the message, and follow the instructions
Getting a valid fire permit: Substantial fines may be
issued to residents who are not in possession of a valid fire permit or are found to be non-compliant to conditions
and regulations within their permit. Fire Permits are available through the Clarence-Rockland bylaw office: 613-446-6022, Ext: 2244. |

Our MP Francis Drouin investigated for alleged sexual
assault
(Sunday, May 13, 2018) Nothing new on this story as of this date.
(Tuesday, April 24, 2018) Francis Drouin issued a public defence on Twitter, saying he was linked to the incident
by mistake... meanwhile, he remains in the Liberal caucus. More...
(Sunday, Apr 22, 2018) Halifax Regional Police are investigating an alleged sexual assault that reportedly
involved Ontario Liberal MP Franci Drouin, who was attending the National Liberal Convention. They say the incident
happened just after 2:00 a.m. AT on Brunswick Street across from Citadel Hill in downtown Halifax, near where the
Liberal Party policy convention was being held.
Drouin, 34, represents the riding of Glengarry-Prescott-Russell.
Drouin was in a crowded bar when a woman became agitated because she believed someone in the bar grabbed her buttocks,
a source who was present at the time and who was near Drouin told Global News.
Drouin allegedly approached the woman to see what had agitated her and was accused by the woman of inappropriately
grabbing her buttocks, the source said.
Francis Drouin's office confirmed an allegation had been made against him.
"I can confirm that an allegation has been made," a statement provided to CBC News on Sunday said.
"I believe it is important for individuals to have a safe environment to come forward, share their stories,
and be supported."
It added while no charges have been laid, Drouin will co-operate fully with the investigation.
A Google search using "Francis Drouin" revealed several related stories as well as a number of Twitter
references, including this item from the CBC. |

Businesses allowed to extend
hours on Sunday and certain holidays
After a request and a survey to gage public opinion the Clarence Rockland municipal council
came to the decision to extend business hours to 9 p.m. on Sunday and remain open on Family Day and Victoria Day.
Businesses in Clarence-Rockland have been permitted to stay open until 10 p.m. from Monday to Friday, and that
will not change. The new change will enable businesses to compete against pharmacies that are already permitted
to stay open later on Sundays. The same is true for Family Day and Victoria Day.
The municipal council came to this decision at the last meeting held on Wednesday, April 4. This comes several
weeks after the Clarence-Rockland Chamber of Commerce made a request to council to extend business hours to 9 p.m.
on Sunday. The City then issued a survey to gage public opinion on the matter. |
